On the Go-Ride Share App | UX Case Study

Problem Statement: Imagine an “On the go” app for elderly people — who can manage their day to day commute, visit places without much hassle and stay independent and gain back one’s confidence to travel with the help of this app.

Analysing the problem: The problem statement focus about elder users for the car-sharing app. we would like to create a Ride-sharing app that should facilitate seniors to feel confident about moving from one place to
another.

Ride seeker- One who wishes to get somewhere by a shared car.

User Stories:

Here I took 2 type of users into an account.

Sangeetha : I want a Phone number that would let me organize my own ride when i need to go out, because it makes me feel self-reliant.

Preethi: I want an app that allows me to find the ideal, trustworthy driver to help to my mom, elderly go where she needs to go to relieve some of my duties.

The older adult may use the riders’ app independently; or alternatively, s/she may share a joint account with his or her daughter, who can provide various levels of assistance when required.

In this case study, persona Sangeetha would depend on Preethi (some scenarios ) , her daughter, to help her coordinate rides with the driver. Sangeetha can directly call driver to book her journeys too if she so wishes.

User Persona:

Name: Sangeetha | Age: 82 | Profession: Former Chief Nurse, Presently spends time at home.

Goal:

  1. Commutes frequently outside to spend peaceful time.
  2. Self -reliant.
  3. Love to spend time with other older friends/neighbours.
  4. Impatient

Name: Preethi | Age: 24 | Profession: Fashion Designer.

Goal:

  1. Loves to spend time on creating Apparel and spend time on social media.
  2. Need her mom to be taken care of so that she can be free.

Assumption:

  1. It is assumed that a user can use the app to book a ride.
  2. The app will list nearby drivers in the user’s area and he/she will choose a driver on his own discretion which means journey time depends on the user’s choice of routes.

User Interviews: The next task was to understand the user’s concerns and expectations for a ride-sharing service. For this, I designed a small questionnaire.

Questionnaire: The idea of the questionnaire is to keep it open-ended and try to gather as many details as possible around a ride-sharing service. The questionnaire is provided below:

  1. what is your preferred mode of commute? (Personal Vehicle, Taxi, & Public Transport)
  2. What is your most preferred cab service and why?
  3. Can you describe your most recent taxi booking experience?

I took telephonic interviews with my 4 friends grand parents . Here’s what I got:

  1. I found out that most of the people prefer shared taxi over public transport like buses/metro because they are economical and readily available.
  2. Out of the available services, People trust Uber because of its brand value, & its clearer interface makes it super easy to book a ride.
  3. Each of the people I interviewed is critical about the driver and their safety. They want to completely trust drivers before they book their ride. Similarly, a driver wants to ensure who is riding with them.

Problem Definition: After gathering all this information, I converted the problem statement into sets of “how might we” statements.

  1. How might we enable the user to request a ride for a route?
  2. How might we generate trust about the driver/ride seeker?
  3. How might we ensure the user to reach her destination in minimum time?
  4. How might we make an application easy to use without any complications in order to get user task done. How to make user to achieve his/her goal?

Current Competitors Company Work Flow: (Uber/Ola)

I studied the work flow of competitors company (Uber/Ola).

This is how the flow is:

In order to book a cab, User has to enter pickup and drop location. The nearby driver is assigned automatically by the app and the user has to wait till the driver arrives. He can also track the location of the cab.

Proposed Flow:

2 Flows has been created by keeping elders as end user in mind.

Wireframes:

Rider Flow: The Low fidelity wireframe has been uploaded, where user (elderly people) , can book a ride easily and he/she can select the modes by selecting Auto,Car or Maxi Cab. While booking , If the user enables return to home(or any bookmarked location.) the user will be dropped at the same pick up location after the work.

Feature helps elderly people to reach back home or pick up location sooner instead of searching 2nd time for pick up point.

Problem Solution:

By in-app form: the fastest, most efficient means of contact. It would assign an available driver from the system immediately. (Downside: lesser human contact/may be harder to navigate for some users depending on their technological proficiency.)

App is easy accessible for elder age for booking rides or rides can be booked by care giver or daughter or sons on their behalf.
